This past weekend was the July Fourth weekend. Joel and I decided to take Friday off to extend the weekend and have a little staycation here in KC. We leave in a couple of weeks for Virginia and thought it would be hard on McKinley to go out of town within a couple of weeks of each other. Plus, there's lots of stuff we can do in town.
We kicked off July 4th with a trip to the zoo. We love the zoo. So much so that we have a season membership. McKinley constantly asks to "go see aminals" so we can go anytime he wants. Within reason, of course! It was a gorgeous day for July and we had a blast. Check out some of our photos from the trip!
On Friday, we headed to Sealife Kansas City. For Father's Day we attended LegoLand which is attached to Sealife. Once in the lobby, McKinley and Joel headed to the fishtank while I picked up our tickets. McKinley thoroughly enjoyed watching the fish and Joel immediately wished we had purchased tickets to Sealife instead. We decided that day that we would hit the aquarium over the long weekend.
This was actually our second time to the aquarium. We took McKinley last summer during another staycation but he was entirely too little to enjoy it. And to be honest, we didn't enjoy it either. This time around was a completely different story. McKinley still talks about the fish and asks daily to "go see more fishes". Looks like another trip is on our future!
This is the aquarium in the lobby. (Notice the nails? He wanted his painted like mama's!)
Showing us his Sealife Expert Medal!
Saturday found us at The K! This is our third game of the season and it was another another gorgeous day! McKinley isn't really one for sitting in his seat for the game. Instead, we generally find ourselves in the Little K, a designated spot for kids to play during the game. Joel took in most of the game while McKinley and I played! And, the Royals won! Three games for McKinley and three wins at each game!
We took it easy on Sunday. We visited my parents, I hit the grocery store and later that afternoon we took McKinley to the pool. Fresh off of swimming lessons, Joel wanted him to show Dada everything he learned. He was awesome! And, he did so much more in this one visit than he did the entire two weeks of lessons.
He finally rode in his wagon!! It has taken months, and several attempts, but he's finally in it.
Staycations are great! You have the convenience of staying in your home, cooking your own meals and coming and going as you please. However, they are just as expensive as an out-of-town trip! We bought souvineers, ate out, ran to the grocery store more frequently because we didn't have dinners planned and went out for ice cream because it was needed! No matter how much money we spent, it was totally worth it! The family time and the memories were priceless!
